Good news for G70 owners and those planning to get one, the IIHS awarded it the Top Safety Pick for 2019.
According to the IIHS, to quality "a vehicle must earn good ratings in the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests. It also must earn an advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention and a good headlight rating."
In fact, the G70 passed every crashworthiness category with flying colors, the IIHS even noted its front crash avoidance & mitigation system to be superior. Child seat anchors that were difficult to access and maneuver did hurt the G70's score, rating at marginal. Unfortunately neither U.S. vehicle safety assessment agencies, IIHS and NHTSA, have produced crash test photos and videos but the Australian based ANCAP has.
Similar results were in ANCAP's report
, earning the G70 a five-star safety rating. Only concerns in that thorough report were marginal ratings for protection of the; chest area in the oblique pole test (32 km/h or 20mph), upper leg protection for rear passengers in the full width frontal test (50 km/h or 31 mph) and rear impact whiplash protection for front and rear passengers.
Like the report from IIHS, ANCAP also praised its active safety systems stating: “the Genesis G70 is fitted with a well-performing lane support system, with Good performance recorded across testing, including some of the more critical emergency lane keeping test scenarios.”
Clearly this is great news, allowing us to confidently play with the G70's dynamic driving experience, but it comes to no surprise. Thoroughly tested Genesis products released before and after the G70 gave us a glimpse into the new safety standards being set.
With that knowledge came the understanding we'll get commonly found tech within the Genesis line up like class-leading active safety systems, driver monitors and alerts with added convenience features, advanced high strength steel (AHSS) body construction and more that makes the G70 even more value packed.
