Launched in 2018 as a BMW 3-Series rival, immediately it became clear the G70 had a lot to offer. Attractive design via "athletic elegance" was one of them, which only gets better as you play with the color options, tailoring the G70 to your liking with 8 exterior and 5 interior colors to choose from.

For 2018, exteriors color options are Adriatic Blue, Casablanca White, Havana Red, Himalayan Gray, Mallorca Blue, Santiago Silver, Siberian Ice and Victoria Black. On the inside its; Black or Grey Leather/Leatherette and Black Nappa Leather w/Grey or Red Stitching. Unfortunately that's all the U.S. market gets.

Other markets get two-tone interior options like Velvet Burgundy + Obsidian Black, Black + Tobacco Brown and Dark Green + Vanilla Beige, along with exterior colors like Gold Scent, Umber Brown and Racing Grey to complement.

U.S. sales of the G70 have been positive which hopefully means more color options in future model years. However coming from a significant sales drop, 36 percent in 6 months last year, it might not happen soon enough.

Being priced much lower than a base 3-Series makes this lack of color options worth it, you'll be paying 15-20% more for the Bavarian. Not only that, but Genesis doesn't charge extra for any of its current roster of colors, BMW does but in all the right areas allowing for a higher level of personalization if that's what you want. In some cases charging +$5000 more!

Genesis on the other hand gets right down to business, cutting out all the guess work, sticking to few very but well thought out color options.

Its the first of an entire next generation of Genesis products, a slow crawl as Genesis first focuses on recovering from last years losses. As they bounce back more options should be on the table.

I have to agree on the lack of colors but as outline here its also understandable why, and the background to that is appreciated.
Compared to Lexus and even Infiniti, Genesis has been making bolder moves to establish the Genesis brand, with that comes this trade off.

Yes it has less color options than the 3 Series, but keep in mind that car is offered in multiple shades of black, grey and silver. And the G70 starts at the exact same base price as the 2018 3 Series. Its not until you get into the additional options that you start to see a big discrepancy in cost.
