Although many seem to think that Genesis is still lagging behind its premium rivals, the folks over at J.D. Power seem to disagree. The Korean luxury brand was given the highest ranking from J.D. Power in their latest survey for overall initial quality. Consumer Reports also gave them a spot in the top 10 brands based on road testing, safety, reliability and owner satisfaction. It's safe to say that Genesis has made significant progress since its departure from Hyundai and it wont be long until it's viewed to be on par with its German rivals.

I have seen people look over new Genesis products like the G70 and G90, and fail to believe it came from a brand that once produces the Elantra and Sonata. If you were to rebadge these as Maserati's or Alfa Romeo's, you can bet the perceived value would be much higher.
It is pretty incredible to see just how far Hyundai has come as a brand, but unfortunately alike Kia and their the new Stinger they are still prone to badge bias when compared to established rivals. I would assume this was the main reason why the made Genesis a stand alone line, as they didn't want to be directly associated with other Hyundai products.
Considering the concepts that we've seen from Genesis lately, I can bet that it wont be long before people look past the nameplate. The Essentia is one of the nicest concept vehicles I've seen, though I expect it to change a fair bit in the production model.
