I'm currently driving a modded/tuned 2012 G37s Sedan. I'm mainly cross-shopping the Mustang GT Premium (2018+) and Genesis 3.3T (2018+).

I live near a Hyundai and Genesis dealer who seems to be very willing to just let me take cars off the lot and test them. I first came by just trying to see how roomy the 6th gen Mustangs were and the guy offered me a test drive. He basically lets me come by and test all kinds of things. I went by today because I saw they finally have a G70 3.3t sport prestige. I dealed with a different salesman this time because the one I usually deal with was busy. This new one just handed me the keys and let me take it off the lot for a test drive, no questions asked, and he didn't come with me like the other guy did. The experience at other dealers in the area doesn't seem to be anything like this. Is this a common thing at hyundai/genesis or something local to my area?

I drove the 2022 G70 3.3t Sport Prestige today and it feels like it's intentionally made to feel "safe" and isn't as easy to "mess around with" as my G37. I liked the speed of the upshifts and availability of power while cruising then stepping on it. The braking seemed a little weak, but I do have upgraded slotted 2 piece rotors, Hawk HPS pads, stainless steel brake lines and 5.1 fluid. I drove the car in sport+ the entire time and it was pretty comfy. There's a huge block by the rear-view mirror which indicates to me it would be a pain mounting a dashcam there and would possibly block the view a bit. The rear-view mirror was also a bit stiff to adjust to my height (I'm 6 foot 3) but the headroom in the car was better than in mine. Roomyness overall was about the same, if not slightly better. The technology was obviously much more advanced, including the reponsiveness of the screen, how nice the screen displayed and the features. My car was originally released in 2008. Based on research I've done online I think I could wake the car up a bit with some mods, but I still think the Mustang would have more of the rowdy driving experience I would enjoy. It all depends on if I want to settle down into a more luxury-focused vehicle or not. The G70 seemed to have a higher emphasis on luxury in ratio to sport, compared to my G37. The voice commands seemed to work fine but when I named the dealer to go back it gave me dealers under the same ownership from other cities in the first couple pages, rather than the one only a couple miles away from me. I had to specify the city name I was in -- that was disappointing. There was a strange thing about the power that is hard to name after looking back trying to recall my drive. Maybe it had to do with where the power was in the powerband. I'm used to having it pretty even in my G37. The G70, while using launch control is doing about what my car does in 0-60 (G70 was 0.1 seconds slower), but I was doing it on a slight downhill incline in the G70 (though, AC was on). Autohold was strange, but I can probably get used to it and I did turn it off during the drive. The HUD didn't seem to display even though in the settings it said it was on, and I turned the brightness up on it all the way. The backwards RPM gauge may also take some getting used to, and it's very strange.. but probably not a big deal at the end of the day. I didn't like that it auto-shifted when I was in manual mode and let the RPMs get high, but I assume people remove this with a tune. I have a few more comments but I'll just leave those to the questions.

Questions:

  1. The navigation guidance voice was very LOW compared to music. Is there a way to adjust that?
  2. Does anyone have comments on mounting a dashcam below that gigantic block behind the rear-view mirror? Does it obstruct your view? Is it really easy to see the cam from outside the car?
  3. Is there a fix for the navigation trying to route me to a dealer in another city under same ownership rather than giving me results with the one a couple miles away from me at the top of the results? When I searched for the same term but said "in <cityname>" it knew to pull up the local dealer.
  4. Any idea what was going on with my HUD not displaying? I had it enabled in the settings and brightness turned all the way up and it wasn't on.
  5. Does anyone else have the annoying wind noise from the passenger side when the front windows are down and you're cruising through town? I kept hearing this whenever I had the windows down and it was very annoying. Is there any known fix for this?
  6. The materials in the interior are very nice. How are they holding up?

Wow. My only response is I love my 2029 G70 3.3 elite. No need to modify unless you like voiding your 100K Mike warranty. I have had 0 issues with the car or dealer(s) in 3 years.
